Stability is an art

In 2008, Barack Obama participated in the Primary Election of Democratic party. By elimination, just like in television reality show, all the other democrats including Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton were eliminated. The presidential election was between Obama and McCain.

In 2012, there was no Primary Election for Democratic party. No one challenges the sitting President. So, opportunities are denied for all Democrats. The presidential election was between Obama and Romney.

That is it. Only two terms for a person. In fact, only one term per family; so that more people get an opportunity to live in the White House.

After the election, the President gets stability for four years.

In India, that is not there. There is no stability at all. Look at this picture. They had election. People did cast their vote; but there is no government in Delhi. It lasted only for 49 days.

So, don't name anyone as Prime Minister elect. You did it right; America will work with the next government in India.  Next may last for a few months or a few years.

Just numbers do not guarantee stability.

Stability for Prime Minister of India is an art; it is not a science or mathematics.

Manmohan Singh is the most successful artist as the Prime Minister of India. He mastered that art.

The President has total and complete freedom about choosing the secretaries and form the cabinet. The President could hire effective executives; as well as fire ineffective secretary.

The Prime Minister has no such luxury. For his or her stability, the Prime Minister has to negotiate with other MPs for their numbers. The PM offers them cabinet positions for their support. So, the cabinet is full of ineffective people. It is just a burden to the Chief Executive.

So, running a government in India is an art. Almost on daily basis, the PM has to do all circus.

If ten MPs go to a coffee shop, the PM has to have sleepless nights, worrying about the stability.

If you deny a cabinet position to an influential MP; that person may corrupt at least 25 MPs; and act against the PM.

Even within their own party; any group may pull the leg of other groups.

In Congress, even if they get less numbers of MP; they don't see any challenge to the leadership of Sonia. So, Sonia enjoys stability.

In all regional leaders, they are like entrepreneurs; they are responsible for their actions; they don't have any masters; they do have obedient slaves. Each regional leader may have total and complete control over 30 MPs. So, no challenge to them.

Communist parties; no challenge at all.

In BJP, there were different versions. Vajpayee BJP; then Advani BJP; now Modi BJP.

Vajpayee - people do respect the leadership of Vajpayee. So, Vajpayee had no challenge from anyone.

Advani - people do respect as the founder of the party. Advani respect others.
Advani missed all his opportunities.

Modi - it is a very new style. It is a shock and awe for BJP leaders too.
They see the danger; but don't know how to respond to the challenge.
Some believe in Rama to save them from Narendra Modi.

So, Narendra Modi has to continue with his campaign; so that no one from BJP challenges him.

In BJP head quarters, in closed room, leaders may engage in challenging the leadership of Narendra Modi as their last chance.

For all his promises about development, Narendra Modi cannot afford to have any old members in his cabinet. Naturally the older generation may challenge Narendra Modi and would wait for a moment to topple his government. Even Vajpayee had to quit within 15 days.

During campaign, Narendra Modi was going around the country as free bird in helicopter. As a PM, he cannot leave the Parliament on any day. Any day, any time, any MP could bring in no-confidence motion against the government and bring down the elected government.

So, America; just wait and watch.
There may be lot of surprises.
