What went wrong with Narendra Modi?

suspicions about the party’s Mission 272+

This is his first and last chance for Narendra Modi. His efforts and preparations for 2014 election, will become a topic of discussion for management studies and world politics.

In fact, the Founding Fathers of America had understood the British Magna Carta; the British Parliament Democracy.

They did understand the defects in the British Parliament System. So, they all met in Pennsylvania for more than a month and discussed about each point in detail and then did draft the Constitution of United States of America.

We need to do such an exercise now.

A team of leaders could meet in Andaman islands for a month and draft a new version of Constitution for India. Leaders like Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh, Somnath Chatterjee and others. Prannoy Roy should capture the discussion and memorable moments. It should not be a live event. They need to have a peaceful discussion. They may have disagreements; but all goes into the recording for historical reasons. Once the draft is ready, it shall be made available online for the public to review.

The Constitution should cover, right from the national government to city and village governments.

In these two months period, not only the public, but also all political leaders; from regional leaders to national leaders; leaders within BJP; all understand the nature of Narendra Modi.

After understanding the nature of Narendra Modi, nobody will take any chance on him.

So, no regional leaders would support Narendra Modi.
No leaders in BJP would support Narendra Modi.

In the beginning of 2014, regional leaders were against Congress; and prepared to support Narendra Modi. But, not now.

General public do enjoy his speech; but those people would not come to the streets for Narendra Modi.
So, Narendra Modi couldn't emerge as a mass leader. If Narendra Modi couldn't become the Prime Minister of India; it is not going to be a shocking news.

People would be very curious and enthusiastic about the real Prime Minister of 2014, who wins the support of all political parties in India.

So, it is not going to be Rahul or Narendra Modi. It will be someone else.

So, what went wrong with Narendra Modi.

Narendra Modi's strategy was half Indian and half American.

Let us explore both strategies.

First, Narendra Modi's full American strategy.

• MBO - Management by Objective

Mission 272 plus is a statement for failure.

It is not a mission statement; it is an objective.

Vision statement is, what you are going to achieve in your life time.  For example, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's vision was - total and complete freedom for the whole India (without partition) from the British.

Mission statement is, achieving freedom by discussions; negotiations and all non-violence way.

Objective is, salt march. 

Salt march is just an objective; it cannot become a mission statement. If Gandhi declared that as a mission, then he would have become a Salt Merchant. His grand kids would be exporting salt all around the world.

So, Narendra Modi's vision should have been;
becoming a Founding Father of Modern India.

Narendra Modi's mission should have been;
by 2020, India would be the developed nation on planet earth.

Immediate objective is, 500 plus MP seats.

Launch an innovative campaign all over India. Challenge not only the Congress; but also all regional parties. So, there is no need for looking for any alliance partners in the regions.

In the current situation, people are confused. They couldn't see Narendra Modi as a fresh, new, leader with innovation. People could forget the communal image of BJP; but they didn't like the local, regional leaders of alliance partners. So, naturally, people do hesitate to cast their vote for the local regional leaders.

Why do you restrict yourself for 272 plus. If you have an objective of winning 500 plus, realistically you may get around 300 plus.

But, you declare a mission of 272 plus; so naturally you will get around 150 plus.

Since Narendra Modi declared the Mission 272 plus; all the regional BJP leaders; they declared their own mission; mission 25; mission 42; and so on.

There should have been only one mission.
Then all other statement would be; objective.
That is what you call, Management by Objective.

Narendra Modi should have set the objective for UP; objective for MP; objective for Rajasthan.
All objectives would contribute for a single mission; of making India developed by 2020.

Because of this mismanagement of Narendra Modi,
each state BJP leader has his own 
Vision and Mission.

BJP, as a whole has lost its meaning; BJP doesn't have one web site for the entire organization. Advani has his own web site; Arun Jatley has his own web site; Rajnath Singh has his own web site; Narendra Modi has his own. So, BJP has already fragmented.

This half American strategy completely destroyed BJP as an organization; all the state BJP leaders will start function as an independent, autonomous organization. Narendra Modi is an inspiration for all the state BJP Chief Ministers. There is no Vajpayee. Advani is ready to dissolve the organization that he built, right from the scratch. Rajnath Singh could not bring all fragments together.

The other winning strategy would have been, Full Indian Strategy.

No innovation; just continue the usual way; make progress.
Progress is different from Innovation.

So, Narendra Modi could have played his cards in a low profile.
Congress had their 10 years. It is BJP's turn.
Without much effort, BJP could have won this election.

Narendra Modi has been working hard;
not against the Congress;
but to stop others in BJP from challenging him.

Had the usual politics continued...
Let Advani become the Prime Minister.
Narendra Modi could be the Deputy Prime Minister.

Instead of 272 plus; just try to win the support of all regional leaders. Make NDA stronger
Each regional leaders would have to bring in, their share of 40 plus to NDA.

In the first 5 years, Narendra Modi could have learned a lot about New Delhi and the rest of the world.
Performance without any responsibility;
If things go well; take credit.
If things don't go well; blame it on Advani.

Next two terms, Narendra Modi could have been the Prime Minister of India.

Now, everything has gone waste.
Blame it on Cho Ramasamy; and other half-baked management consultants.

Managers do things right.
Leaders do right things.
