Why Anna Hazare skipped Mamata rally: 'there weren't even 4,000 people'

Anna Hazare has revealed why he stood up Mamata Banerjee at a widely-publicised joint rally in Delhi on Wednesday. "There were not even 4,000 people there," the Gandhian activist today said, calling it "betrayal."

It is so sad for Anna Hazare. He is too old to understand the current days of communication.

It takes courage to stand alone on that stage; in that big ground; in front of those empty chairs; in the capital of India; in that afternoon.

You made a commitment; and you honored it. You did go to the venue and gave a speech.

In today's world, you may talk to a few media people inside a small room. But people are reading and listening to your speech from all around the world. The crowd is always there. It is virtual.

Millions of people reading your speech word by word. There is no need to worry about the crowd. Truth in your speech and in action; that is what matters now.

Karamchand Mohandas used to talk to people. Huge crowd used to come from far places to listen to Gandhi. Mohandas always spoke the truth. Karamchand did not count the heads. Head count doesn't matter at all. The truth comes from your mouth is what important.

Karamchand had energy from within. Mohandas, there was no need to get energy from the crowd. In fact, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi used to gave away energy to his audiences.

Nowadays, these so called leaders have energy. The inside energy is empty. They need charge their battery from the crowd. So, they need to see huge crowd of people.

In fact, nowadays people come to these kind of rally for entertainment. They don't even listen to the speech. When you ask the people sitting in the chair, what these leaders are talking, they cannot respond to you properly.

People who don't go for these rally, listen to the radio or watch tv or read newspapers. Nowadays, they read your blog too. So you don't need to depend on traditional media to communicate with people.

This is a very good exercise, Mamata Didi. You learnt a very important lesson.

No free food. Nobody can take you to the top. They have their own hidden agenda.

You have to just follow your heart. No need to follow anyone. You lead.

Leaders walk alone.
