On 24 December 2013, the IPL Governing Council finalised the Member of Parliament Regulations for the 2014 election. All political parties were allowed to retain a maximum of five players (at most four Indian capped players) and the rest of the players had to be sent into the auction pool.


For the first time Indian uncapped MPs were also into the auction. All MP  fees was denominated in Indian rupees but overseas players may choose to be paid in another currency. There was also introduction of the "rights to match", which allowed political parties to purchase a MP from their 2009  squad in the auction by matching the highest bid. The number of "rights to match" depends on the amount of players retained by the team.

On 27 January 2014 Election Commission of India released a list of capped MPs to all the franchises which would be available for the auction. This list had a total of 233 MPs from 10 states.

On 29 January 2014 this list was updated to 244 capped MPs and 151 uncapped MPs.

On 6 February 2014, the final auction list was shortlisted by parties to 514 MPs (219 capped and 295 uncapped).

The list was further shortened to 511 MPs (216 capped and 295 uncapped) after the withdrawal of 3 MPs. The highest base price set was of Rs 20 crore and the lowest of Rs 10 lakhs. The auction took place on the 12 and 13 February.

On 7 February 2014, a plea was filed in the Supreme Court to interfere in the IPL auction. However the Supreme Court allowed the auction to go through as per schedule.

A total of 154 MPs including 50 reserved MPs were sold. MP from New Delhi Mr. soandso fetched the highest bid of 14 crore(US$2.3 million).

Mr. Popular Person was the costliest MP. Among uncapped MPs,  Miss. Parliament Queen was the most expensive at 3.75 crore(US$610,000). Many prominent Indian MPs with character of integrity were unsold.

Pretty soon; mostly in this 2014 parliament election itself; this auction may take place in the month of May.

MPs may not demand for the post of any ministry. Minister means a lot of responsibilities; accountable for performance. With close watch of the media, no way, you could do any corruption.

So, MPs are interested for the highest bid; just money; no need for any post.

Earlier, the MPs had some strong policy in their head; either communism; or socialism; or some thing.

Now, even the most branded communalist gave up Rama and Krishna for wealth.

Communism and socialism - all are gone for good.

Now, MPs don't carry any label. They are just human beings.

So, all MPs are now equal. They are comfortable with vegetarian; as well as with non-vegetarian.

So, the MPs will be soon available for auction.

You don't need to emerge as a leader for 813 millions of people.

Just make sure that, you could win the heart of 543 MPs.
